Classroom management can feel overwhelming, especially in third grade! Over the years, I’ve discovered a few simple strategies that keep students engaged, routines consistent, and my sanity intact. Here’s what works for me.
- Routine Reminder Moments – Quick check-ins in the morning, before lunch, and end of day. Students internalize expectations without constant reteaching. These are embedded into our morning meetings, workshop models, and beyond!
- Anchor Charts for Visual Cues – Display routines, procedures, and expectations in a way students can reference independently. I love having our anchor chart displayed so students can refer back to our expectations, especially those first few weeks! https://www.instagram.com/p/DNwdDiH4us_/
- Timed Task Bins for Early Finishers – 5, 10, 15-minute bins with review or challenge activities that keep students productive while I support small groups. Students know they can go to these bins at any time and grab something out of there that can further their learning!
